Tema Gobierno de mujeres
"La mujer siempre estuvo en todas las luchas y jamás ha
sidoreconocida, la mujer es tomada como animal , como objeto de
mercancía para elsistema capitalista ,pero acá en Chiapas y con los
compañeros Zapatistas , nosorganizamos para alcanzar esa libertad y a
pesar de no saber leer , escribir o hablarespañol nosotras aprendimos
a gobernar " " nos da tristeza el ver como algunasmujeres estudiadas y
con título creen que son libres , pero no se dan cuenta queel sistema
las engaña y maneja ya que ellas no pueden participar en el gobierno"

Mostrando igualdad apegándoseprecisamente al tema de mujeres ( así
como los Zapatistas han aprendido a hacerlo) con 3 hombres y 3
mujeres al frente ,estosmaestr@s Zapatistas , nos compartieron en la
segunda clase el tema de "Gobiernode mujeres " en el EZLN . Así
tomando la palabra, precisamente las mujeres,explicaron el cómo se han
ganado el respeto y derecho de incrustarse en todo ámbitodentro de la
política Zapatista y en los tres niveles. Nos dijeron la diferenciade
19 años de autonomía y libertad a 520 años han sufrido sus abuelas y
madresel rechazo, menos precio y abuso por parte del mal sistema y el
capitalismo. Consabiduría y palabras humildes salidas del corazón nos
sacudieron con verdades fuertes ycontundentes .Nosotros vemos con
tristeza que "Hay mujeres con títulos universitarios eintelectuales
que creen que están libres, pero la verdad es que el sistema las
engañahaciéndoles creer eso ya que no practican su libertad por que el
sistema el malgobierno no se los permite y son manipuladas" decían. La
mujer siempre haestado al lado del hombre en esos 520 años y desde que
el EZLN comenzó. Dicen; "Nosotras las Zapatistas ,hemos visto como
las mujeres sufren , pero ahora nosotros las mujeresZapatistas aquí
estamos a pesar de los sufrimientos de nuestras madres yabuelas ,
hemos heredado el sufrimiento y aprendido." Hemos sufrido hambre y
frio al lado de nuestroscompañeros. la mujeres Zapatistas también han
aprendido a gobernar aparte dehacer sus labores domésticas y en sus 3
años de algún puesto público practicany ensenan los principios
fundamentales del zapatismo sin ganar algún sueldomonetario más que la
recompensa de la confianza y respeto del pueblo. Con estafrase se
hacia la reflexión de cómo opera el trabajo sicológico del gobierno
"El sistema nos había metido en la cabeza deque nosotras como mujeres,
no valíamos, no pensábamos y no teníamos la capacidadpara participar
en cosas de hombres" también nos veían, como objetos, mercancías
oanimales ,recalcaban el trabajo sicológicoque el sistema les ha
hecho durante todos estos largos años haciéndoles creerque no servían
y que por ser pobres , indígenas y mujeres no podían hacer nada.Pero
los problemas no terminaban allí ya que fue difícil hacer entender al
compañeroque ellas podían participar y hacer las labores y trabajo de
hombres, en unprincipio como en todo fue difícil, cuentan. Pero con
trabajo de convencimientoy reflexión estos hombres Zapatistas
mostraron humildad y bajaron la guardia y orgullo, en este acto de
valory valentía al tirar su orgullo machista, se dieron cuenta que la
lucha era dedos hombres y mujeres al unísolo luchando como siempre se
había hecho y asícomenzaron a motivar y ayudar a su pareja para
ejercer algún puesto degobierno. En la pregunta que precisamente yo
hice que fue "¿Cuál ha sido lo más duro que hansufrido y vencido para
lograr aceptar el valor dela mujer y su aporte comoiguales? La
respuesta fue que primero fue deshacerse de las ideas que elsistema
les había hecho creer acerca de la mujer y lo otro más duro
deshacersede su machismo y empezar a hacer labores domésticas aun
cuando algunos hombresse burlaban de ellos tachándolos de mandilones.
Una mujer Zapatista ponía comoejemplo que cuando alguna compañera
venia en el camino cargando leña , el compañerosi la veía este se
escondía para no ayudarla y así evitar las burlas de los demás ya que
alli no era común que elhombre cargara leña ,lavara o cuidara al
niño@s. La mujer cuando está en el gobierno tiene elderecho y
libertad de convocar a asambleas extraordinarias en dado caso y
tambiéntiene el derecho a hacer propuestas en mejora del pueblo. Claro
que existen tambiénmujeres que no se creen aun capaces de gobernar ,
pero que sus compañeros lasestimulan ya hacerlo , también existe el
casos en donde el compañero no quieredejarla ejercer un puesto , pero
esta mujer valiente se revela y logra hacerlo, y en su acto el
compañero se da cuenta que estaba equivocado. También ellasen grupos
de mujeres desarrollan actividades y propuestas solo para mujeres,
asíhan recatado tres áreas : las hueseras, un trabajo que las mujeres
hacen ahombres y mujeres , parteras se encargan de ver a las
compañeras cuando estánen su periodo de embarazo ya que lamujer
Zaptista puede sentir como está el feto ,si está en su posición , esta
sabiduríade madres y abuelas heredada . Y las hierberasrescatando la
cultura rescatando la medicina tradicional, mejores medicamentospara
nosotroa@S . Todo eso hacemos y estamos claros que hay más sabiduría
de padres y abuelos que vamos a heredar .
Así durante una horay media de explicación vía videoconferencia se
desarrolló esta clase y tema ,porestos maestros y maestras zapatistas
que hablan con la voz del corazóninyectando y motivando a la mujer y
diciéndoles con ejemplo vivido de que y a pesarde no saber leer ni
escribir y mucho menos hablar español se puede gobernar asímandando
obedeciendo y hablando simplemente con humildad … verdad! Y con
contundencia los hombres también nos mandaronu mensaje a los hombres
"machos" y este es el de deshacerse del falso orgullode hombre y
entender que somos iguales y que lejos de ver a la mujer como,
mercancía oanimal pero sobre todo como enemiga o competencia se debe
de ver como un serpensante y que siente y capaz de hacer cualquier
cosa que el hombre pudierahacer y viceversa.
La clase acabo con las respectivas preguntas de los usuariosy un
receso de 15 minutos en el que se disfrutaban de canciones referentes
al zapatismoo a la lucha sin faltar y por supuestoel himno zapatista
y la canción en su idioma "la del moño colorado"

Day 2:Women's Government at Zapatista Freedom School

On thesecond day of sessions, our six Zapatista teachers from the
autonomouscommunities talked about the Women's Revolutionary Law which
was created sincethe beginning of their fight (see below the 10
Principles of that Act which wasmade public since their uprising in
1994).

1. Women,regardless of their race, creed, color or political
affiliation, have a rightto participate in the revolutionary struggle
in any way that their desire andcapacity determine.

2. Womenhave the right to work and receive a just salary.

3. Womenhave the right to decide the number of children they have and care for.

4. Womenhave the right to participate in the matters of the community
and to takecharge if they are freely and democratically elected.

5. Womenand their children have the right to primary attention in
their health andnutrition.

6. Womenhave the right to education.

7. Womenhave the right to choose their partner and are not obliged to
enter intomarriage.

8. Womenhave the right to be free of violence from both relatives and strangers.

Rape andattempted rape will be severely punished.

9. Womenwill be able to occupy positions of leadership in the
organization and holdmilitary ranks in the revolutionary armed forces.

10. Womenwill have all the rights and obligations which the
revolutionary laws andregulations give.

"WeZapatista women have conquered freedom through our effort ever
since we startedour organization" they said. "We conquered freedom to
reach equality betweenmale comrades and female comrades. Our
organization taught us that we are worthit, that we can participate.
We can fill positions in the governments at everylevel – Local, MAREZ
(Autonomous Rebellious Zapatista Municipality), and GoodGovernment
Boards, we can be sheriffs, health promoters, health
coordinators,education and agro-ecological coordinators and so on.

Theystressed that it's been an effort for 19 years against 520 years
of bad habits,so it has been hard both for men and women, and they
have now benefits thattheir mothers and grandmothers did not have.
"Women in the capitalistic systemare a commodity, just like animals,
like a pig or a horse," they said. "Thefemale body is used to promote
more commodities, but we think we did not cometo this earth to be
treated like commodities."

They talkedabout the challenges both for men and women to accept that
women have the samerights. When asked which ones where the main
difficulties, they said that oneof the hardest parts of the process
was facing criticism – from othernon-Zapatista women, from men. For
men, the hardest part was to learn domestictasks, to stay at home
doing what women do, to overcome the destructivecriticism coming from
the sexist non-Zapatista society. " If they see a manwashing his
laundry they criticize you," they said. "It has been very difficultbut
we overcame it."

In someareas, it was customary for women to work just like pack
animals, they had tocarry the firewoods all alone. So when men started
carrying the firewoods othermen made fun of them. Men felt ashamed
when they carried it and another men sawthem carrying their children
or washing the laundry, but they got it over with.

Whentalking about the process for women to fill government positions,
they saidthat in the beginning only a few women got those positions.
Women had to workhard to encourage each other and trust themselves to
do the job, but men had towork too to encourage women and persuade
them they could do the job, becausethere were women who did not think
they could do it. Now there are women whocannot read or who don't
speak Spanish and they are part of their governmenttoo (usually older
women, because younger women get education in theirautonomous
schools). These women bring their daughters to take notes, write
orread and translate, but they can fill government positions.

Theystressed the fact that whenever a woman's position needs to be
replaced, it isalways replaced by another woman, not by a man.

When askedhow women avoid to work twice or triple workday, they
explained that they don'thave to because now the domestic work is
distributed equally.

"We as menwe feel this is an achievement they have conquered," men
said. "To us it isencouraging to see that they are participating, now
we are not just one teambut two teams. Now we are not alone, Now women
are also government and theyshare knowledge and experience with other
women. What we still regret a littleis that there are still men who
don't understand that women must get involved,because the fight is not
completed if women don't get involved".

Women alsohighlighted that they feel sad for other women in the
country because, eventhough they go to college, they are not free.
Their bad government makes foolof them, they cannot participate in
their government even though their badgovernment says they do, and
these women are not free. "However, we are certainthat if these women
join together, organize and mobilize they will conquertheir freedom,"
Zapatistas said.

"Now, inour government, there are not just 10 women like when we
started but many more.We are confident that those other women in
Mexico will make it it they jointogether and fight. They probably did
not have to face the same problems wedid. They probably did not face
opposition in their families or from theirparents, but that if they
organize themselves they will make it

"We arecertain that if other women start organizing themselves they
won't face thesame challenges we did because challenges change
depending on where you are,your region and culture, but you can make
it.

"Zapatistawomen are not abused anymore. If a woman is mistreated by
her man, that is notaccepted by our system, and the government board
will act.

"We havefaced challenges but we have made progress. There are still
difficulties.Example, some of us must walk about one hour before
taking our bus to go towork government representatives,even so we do
it because we understand that ourinvolvement is important.

"Conqueringour freedom is not easy but we are certain that it is possible

"Talkingabout these achievements for an hour seems simple but it has
taken 19 years,which is not too much in comparison to 520 years of
abuse and exploitation . .. our female comrades have done two or three
times the effort to be where theyare now . . . they have also
incorporated our heritage (in natural medicine,midwifes etc.) . . .
and this is done so that they can leave a legacy to theirdaughters and
granddaughters

This is nota recipe either, we learn by just doing it and advancing."

The nextclass will be about resistance. Our session is at 10 pm in
Spanish with limitedEnglish translation online.
